Born in Berlin
Community-IX has been founded by Christian Seitz, Leon Meßner and Theo Voss in Berlin. In Berlin, many non-profit organisations and IT-related interest groups were looking for uplink capacity and talking to different providers, datacenters and hardware sponsors. In order to minimise the effort for all invoved parties, Communix-IX has been established. A central platform which brings together sponsors and peers with one single crossconnect.
Now, the platform provides more than 100 Gbps bandwidth for non-profits and has a daily peak traffic level of around 15 Gbps. The concept / idea has been “exported” to Switzerland and Austria. Community-IX plays an important role in providing connectivity for well-known community events and well-used community services.
Established in Vienna
The internet community in Vienna in the past had no platform to interconnect sponsors and peers since now. Community-IX Vienna, founded by Theo Voss, aims to provide a central hub to grow community traffic, increase knowledge exchange and provide easy access to connectivity for non-profits.
